Tutorial Assignment 9/ Emma Watson's Obituary

(Assignment purposes only; she's not dead)

If you see her on the streets, she was just like any other woman; brown hair framing her oval face that was usually decorated with a wide smile. Yet, she had left an imprint so significant in this lifetime ignorance would be a fool not to acknowledge.

She was a walking inspiration upholding her individuality in this constantly changing world. The brightest witch of her age they called her, or better known as Emma Charlotte Durre Watson. She was found dead in her home last night due to unknown causes. The 30-year old British actress left fans all around the world heartbroken at the unexpected news.

If you truly pour your heart into what you believe in, even if it makes you vulnerable, amazing things can and will happen.

Watson, who had no background of acting whatsoever, landed the iconic role in the best-selling book series Harry Potter at only 9 years old, playing Hermoine Granger. J.K Rowling knew the moment she saw Watson, the role of Hermoine was hers to take. Little did she know, that was her first step to international stardom. Unlike most child actors, Watson continued to pursue acting as she grew, starring in roles contrasting greatly from her early days in Hogwarts such as the film adaptation of the book The Perks of Being A Wallflower (2012) alongside actor Logan Lerman, and The Bling Ring. Before her final bow, she starred beautifully in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the classic Little Women. The movie alone gaged six nominations from the 92nd Academy Awards.

Apart from her talented skills as an actress, Watson was too an exemplary fashionista back in her twenties catching the attention of several major fashion figures in the industry. Watson shocked the crowds as she debuted with a pixie cut for the premiere in the final Harry Potter movie (Deathly Hallows Part II) back in August 2010. Her refreshing cut introduced a new side of Watson, shedding away her child-like image of her days back in Harry Potter.

Just like her on-screen persona, Watson was a bookworm at heart with the ferocity to advocate for the voices of the oppressed. Upon graduating from Brown University with an English Degree, she was appointed a UN Goodwill Ambassador. UN’s HeForShe campaign shed light on the multitude of injustice faced by countless amount of women. Her gentle yet firm voice trembled the hearts of many as she pleaded towards the public, “We are struggling for a uniting word but the good news is we have a uniting movement. It is called HeForShe. I am inviting you to step forward, to be seen to speak up, to be the "he" for "she". And to ask yourself if not me, who? If not now, when?”.

Born on April 15 of 1990, in Paris, France, Watson had returned home far too soon. She will always be remembered as the years go by as the strong, empowering woman that she was, and inspiring other youths to do the same, "Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do or achieve. Do what you want to do and be who you want to be. Just encourage and include each other, don't ostracise the gender in front of you". Let us all lift up our wands one last time to bid her a final farewell.
